January Garnet Usually red but can be green, purple, orange, black or colorless.
February Amethyst Purple or bluish violet quartz crystal. The color comes from Manganese.
March Aquamarine A member of the Beryl family of minerals. Sometimes called the "poor man's diamond." The color comes from Scandium.
March Bloodstone "The Martyr's Gem." Also called "Heliotrope."
It's a green chalcedony (quartz) sprinkled with red spots.
April Diamond Crystalized carbon. The hardest naturally occuring material on Earth.
May Emerald A member of the Beryl family of minerals. Varies from light to dark green in color.
June Pearl Unlike most gemstones, pearls have an organic origin. They are made by certain species of oysters and clams.
Pearls are mostly aragonite (Calcium Carbonate - CaCO3).
June Moonstone Moonstones are translucent stones that has a shimmering effect.
The moonstone is the werewolf's favorite gem :-)
June Alexandrite Belongs to the chrysoberyl family of gems.
It is emerald green during daylight and a purplish red under artificial lights or twilight.
July Ruby Of the Corundum (aluminum oxide) group of minerals. The red is caused by trace amounts of chrominum.
Corundum is second hardest natually occuring sustance (diamonds being the hardest).
August Peridot Gem-quality transparent variety of olivine. Olive to Lime Green in color.
August Sardonyx It's a chalcedony (quartz) with red (sard) and white (onyx) bands.
September Sapphire Of the Corundum (aluminum oxide) group of minerals. The blue is caused by trace amounts of titanium and iron.

October Opal Opal is a fragile hydrated silica material. It is formed in near-surface volcanic rocks.
It comes in many colors. All black Opals come from Australia.
October Tourmaline Tourmaline is a complex aluminous borosilicate mineral and
comes in a myriad of colors including yellow, green, red, blue, pink, brown and black.
November Topaz Topaz is the hardest of the silicate materials.
December Turquoise Turquoise is a soft gemstone. It's usualy blue, bluish green, or greenish gray.
December Zircon Consists of Zirconium Silicate.
The color comes from trace amounts of Thorium and Uranium that replace zirconium in the crystal.
Thorium and Uranium are radioactive and slowly alter the crystal structure forming a glass like material.
